Gyeongju Integrated Cultural Library
Gyeongju Integrated Cultural Library
(Proposal) “Finite Everyday Life, Infinite Records”
The library to be newly established in Hwangseong Park of the ancient city of Gyeongju is planned with the records of civilization placed at its core, meeting contemporary everyday life through a series of layered transitional spaces that function as buffers.
Through multiple strata, the project expands the boundaries of time, offering users experiences in which they may dwell in, and occasionally traverse, desired times and spaces alongside books. On the land of Gyeongju, where historical time and everyday life intersect, the project seeks to create an experience in which finite daily life is transformed into infinite records.
A sequence of spatial layers is introduced to form a flow that leads from nature to civilization, and from civilization to infinite records. These layers are not merely circulation paths, but multi-layered spaces of stay where citizens linger, read, reflect, and accumulate their own everyday lives.
